The Lake Area Chorale was established in 1962 when Geraldine Haldiman invited community members in Eldon, Missouri, to sing with the High School Choral Department in a performance of Handel’s “Messiah”.
The Greater Lake Area Arts Council (now LAC) sponsored the development of the Greater Lake Area Chorale in 1994 with Robert Sinclair as the first director. The Chorale presented a spring and fall concert that season and has continued to do so throughout the years. There have been several directors since Mr. Sinclair, with current director, Michael Lindeman, beginning his term in 2002.
Mr. Lindeman recently retired as Associate Professor of Music at Central Methodist University after 13 years of teaching. While residing in the Kansas City area he sang extensively with the Kansas City Lyric Opera Company and the Kansas City Chamber Choir. Michael has sung for the New Reformed Temple of Kansas City for over 25 years. He holds a Bachelors of Music Education and Master of Music in Performance from Emporia State University and is a graduat of the Goerthe Institute. Michael brings over three decades of experience in conducting choruses and orchestras to the Lake of the Ozarks. Currently, he and his wife reside in Four Seasons where Michael offers private lessons in voice, piano and guitar.
Under Michael’s guidance the Greater Lake Chorale has seen a dramatic increase in community participation and support. Currently, there are over 70 members and the Chorale now presents both a Fall and Spring concert series performing in towns surrounding the Lake of the Ozarks and in Jefferson City. The latest addition, the Greater Lake Area Chorale Children’s Choir, toured and performed with the Greater Lake Area Chorale throughout the 2013 Spring Season and was greeted with much success and enthusiasm.
